Arts Economy Data for U.S. Territories
The U.S. Arts and Cultural Production Satellite Account (ACPSA) provides estimates for all 50 states and the nation as a whole. Estimates are not available for the U.S. territories: American Samoa; Guam; Northern Mariana Islands; Puerto Rico; and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Despite the lack of ACPSA data for these territories, it is possible to use another data source to report the number of business establishments, annual payroll, and employment figures for selected arts and cultural industries. That data source is the U.S. Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns (CBP). See below for estimates that have been computed by the Arts Endowment’s Office of Research & Analysis.
The level of industry detail reported varies by territory. For Puerto Rico, for example, estimates are provided for 17 industries, including a few that are shown by organizational tax status. For American Samoa, alternatively, CBP data are available only for the territory’s web publishing and streaming industry.
As a reference, the following data table also shows population estimates for each of the territories.
