National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chair Maria Rosario Jackson and a small team of NEA staff visited South Dakota on Wednesday, July 5—Friday, July 7, 2023. In her first official visit to South Dakota since becoming chair, the team visited NEA grantees and other organizations as they explored the rich history of arts and culture in South Dakota, Pine Ridge Reservation, and Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation. The trip provided an opportunity to better understand the needs of artists and arts organizations in this part of the county, and to learn how the arts are helping to bring people together, while supporting individual and collective health and well-being.
