Jimmy Scott's most memorable recording session

Now, a Jazz Moment...

When asked to recall his most vivid memory of a recording session, NEA Jazz Master Jimmy Scott remembers...

Jimmy Scott: ...that first one that I ever did with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra, Everybody's Somebody's Fool.

MUSIC: "Everybody's Somebody's Fool" CD: Everybody's Somebody's Fool, Decca GRD-669 (cut 1)

Jimmy Scott: And I was shocked that it attracted the public like it did.

MUSIC: same - up for punctuation

"Everybody's Somebody's Fool" was a major hit for the Hampton Band and it put "Little Jimmy Scott" -- as folks used to call him back then -- on the map.

Jimmy Scott: Being in front of his band and singing out there with just huge crowds and things... and they were raising Cain and (imitates crowd and laughs)... You know, and you learn to get used to it.

MUSIC: up and fades under

This Jazz Moment with vocalist Jimmy Scott was created by the National Endowment for the Arts.
