The NEA grant will support phase three of the Farm/Art Trail. The project is an ongoing initiative that pairs local artists with local farms across Orange County, New York, connecting the community's identity to New York City's food sources. This phase will support live painting demonstrations by the artists. It also will feature a map – distributed at New York City green markets – which direct people to a mobile app that will track and find each artist's public work at the farm. The project will draw families from the city to explore Orange County, seeking out the artists' work and the farms, and will foster interaction among community members. The project is a partnership among the Wallkill River School of Art, Orange County Tourism, Orange County Planning Commission, Orange County Arts Council and Cornell Cooperative Extension. Rural Orange County, within commuting distance of New York City, has a population of 187,000 residents.
