The NEA grant will support public art and programming at the newly renovated Northern Maine Center for Cultural Arts, located in downtown Presque Isle. Project activities include the commissioning and installation of public art to adorn the center's facade, arts programming and exhibitions for the community, and residencies for local artists. University of Maine at Presque Isle, City of Presque Isle, and Wintergreen Arts Center will collaborate to activate the center as a new hub of cultural activity in downtown. The center will become a key institutional anchor along with a main street of businesses, a renovated library, and a new recreation center. A community of 9,500 residents, Presque Isle is a rural community located in the central portion of Aroostook County in northern Maine.
