City of Seattle, Washington (aka City of Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs)
The NEA grant will support the development of a cultural placemaking toolkit for activating urban spaces with the arts. The toolkit will provide visioning and implementation strategies to guide neighborhood wayfinding, pop-up space activations, park and public space design, and the support of arts interventions in the right-of-way. The City of Seattle’s Office of Arts & Culture will partner with other city agencies, Capitol Hill Housing Foundation, and others to pilot the implementation of the toolkit in newly formed Arts Districts in several diverse Seattle neighborhoods. The pilot district in the Capitol Hill neighborhood will be followed by new areas added each year. The City of Seattle has a population of 635,000.
