City of Newberg, Oregon
The NEA grant will support the creation of a cultural district plan for the newly formed Newberg Cultural District. The plan will establish gateway elements, wayfinding devices, permanent and temporary art installations, and a framework for the acquisition of future public art in the district. Design firm Mayer/Reed will lead the master planning process and design the gateway elements, and together with the City of Newberg, Chehalem Cultural Center, and Chehalem Park and Recreation District, they will develop a process for the selection of outdoor sculpture by local and regional artists. Newberg is a community of 22,000 located within the Chehalem Valley, which is experiencing unprecedented growth due to tourism. The project seeks to engage Newberg's growing Latino population and serve as a draw for those visiting the surrounding area.
