North Valley Arts Council
GrandForks, North Dakota
Grand Forks, a city of 56,000 on the northeast edge of North Dakota, lacks a centralized arts center at which its citizens can enjoy cultural events. The North Valley Arts Council and the City of Grand Forks are partnering to use their Our Town grant on the architectural design for a Collaborative Arts Center in the city's downtown. The center will be housed in a vacant historic property with space for rehearsals, classrooms, a black box theater, art gallery, artist studios, not-for-profit offices, and art and consignment shops. North Valley Arts Council and the City of Grand Forks will collaborate with numerous local arts organizations in the planning and programming of the new center. The center will be the first arts venue of its kind in Grand Forks, providing area residents with exposure to a variety of art forms and activities. Similarly, by locating the center in a vacant property in the city's center, existing businesses will benefit from new foot traffic and tourist dollars.
