Troy, New York
The not-for-profit Media Alliance has a strong presence in the neighborhood of North Troy, operating out of a community arts center, the Sanctuary for Independent Media, near Freedom Square where open-air events and education take place.
Media Alliance, together with the City of Troy and more than a dozen community arts, design, and education partners, is creating the project Found Art in North Troy. Local artists, design professionals, and arts organizations will enhance the livability of a neglected block of 6th Avenue in North Troy by presenting concerts, screenings, festivals, workshops, and interdisciplinary cultural exchange over an 18-month time span. Funding will also support the installation of three public artworks created from found objects on three sites—Freedom Square, Collard City Garden, and Troy Bike Rescue. Individual artists involved in the project range from painters, sculptors, and storytellers to artists with a practice based in biology.
