Greater Flint Arts Council
Once a booming auto-manufacturing city, Flint, Michigan, and the surrounding community of Genesee County have retained a thriving arts community of approximately 15,000 independent artists and more than 80 arts and cultural organizations.
The Greater Flint Arts Council and the City of Flint are creating a citywide plan for arts and culture that will coordinate with the city's master planning process, and utilize art as a tool to encourage broader community participation. Project activities include an update to Flint's Community Cultural Plan, formation of an arts and culture committee to guide the master planning process, and utilization of artists-in-residence to facilitate community meetings in nine neighborhoods. The planning process will engage as many as 400 individuals from the arts community to provide ideas and strategies to support cultural development in Flint.
