City of Miami
With its Our Town grant, the City of Miami, along with the Haitian Cultural Arts Alliance, will be expanding the arts programming of the Little Haiti Cultural Center. The population of the Little Haiti neighborhood of Miami, Florida, has minimal access to the arts, but the Little Haiti Cultural Center provides art classes and workshops to approximately 1,000 adults and youth in the community to address this issue. Proposed new activities include free monthly musical event programming called "Big Night in Little Haiti," an annual day of free arts performances and exhibitions featuring resident visual and performing artists; youth and family dance programming; and a nine-month pilot program to establish a Haitian artisan craft studio. The project is expected to provide increased opportunities for cultural exchange and dialogue about Afro-Caribbean arts and crafts among participants, artists, and visitors to Miami.
