Mississippi Museum of Art
The newly renovated Mississippi Museum of Art serves approximately 50,000 visitors annually. The museum's permanent collection focuses on work from Mississippi and American visual artists, British 19th-century portraits, European prints, and Pre-Columbian ceramics.
The museum will further enhance its offerings with a new Art Garden, funded in part by an NEA Our Town grant. The grant will support educational programs, multidisciplinary performances, and film screenings that will take place in the garden, which will be the first outdoor public green space to open in Jackson since the 1970s. It is expected to strengthen the downtown cultural district and serve as a catalyst for the creation of new entryways, wayfinding signage, and connections to adjacent entertainment and historical districts. A signature event, the first annual Downtown All Day Arts Festival, will be held to inaugurate the new space and expanded arts programming. The Art Garden is expected to increase annual museum attendance by 30,000.
