Horace Bushnell Memorial Hall Corporation
Each year, the Bushnell puts on more than 350 musical, comedy, children's theater, and Broadway tour performances, reaching an annual audience of more than 300,000. Not only is the Bushnell a leader of local culture, it is also a major economic driver for the greater Hartford area.
To further integrate the city's arts and economic sectors, the Bushnell has launched the iQuilt project, an arts-based economic development plan designed to capitalize on Hartford's unique heritage and cultural assets. Our Town funds will be used to support the project's third phase, which includes the design of Bushnell Park North and the inauguration of the Hartford Innovations Festival, an event honoring the wealth of cultural and technological innovations that have origins in the city. Design and engineering plans for Bushnell Park North will transform it into a pedestrian-friendly urban boulevard, while the festival will celebrate the future redesign of the street with a range of performances and tours. These performances will take place in digitally projected spaces on existing streetscape, and will illustrate how new storefronts and buildings might appear in the future. The Hartford iQuilt was the recipient of an NEA MICD25 grant; Our Town funding will support the next phase of the work.
