From George Strait's 1981 debut album, Strait Country, to his June 2003 release Honkytonkville, he has become one of the all-time most successful recording artists. Throughout his 23-year career, Strait has earned countless trade and industry achievement awards including four American Music Awards, 15 Country Music Association (CMA) Awards (including 71 CMA nominations), eight Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards, and membership in the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame. In 2002, he earned the ACM's Gene Weed Award for Special Achievement in recognition of his record-breaking 50 number 1 singles. Strait has released 31 albums including Strait out of the Box (1995), Pure Country (1992) and this year's For the Last Time: George Strait Live from the Astrodome - all of which have hit gold or platinum status.
