Welcome Back to Blue Star Museums!
This morning we launched the fourth summer of Blue Star Museums, which offers free admission to active duty service members and their families at over 2,000 museums across the country from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Throughout the summer, you can find us on Facebook, Twitter, and of course, the blog, as we share stories and ideas about how to make the most of the program.
To help us kick off the season, Lt. Gen. John W. Hesterman III, U.S. Air Force penned the guest post below.
Military families serve our nation too! Every day, military family members around the globe make sacrifices while their loved ones deploy, train, and work extremely long hours in support of our national defense. Trust me when I say our time with family is often extremely limited, so we constantly look for ways to spend quality time with our families. This summer, we have at least 2,000 exciting and educational opportunities where we can spend that quality time with our families.
The Blue Star Museums program, a collaborative effort between the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and participating museums, provides free admission to active duty members and their families from Memorial Day to Labor Day. This year, an impressive network of 2,000 museums will educate, entertain, and inspire our families, particularly our youngest---and most impressionable---members.
As you make your travel summer travel plans, consider visiting one of the Blue Star Museums. For a complete list of participating museums go to: www.arts.gov/bluestarmuseums
During a time of increasing demands on our force and their families, we appreciate the generosity of the Blue Star Museums that will allow us to spend precious quality time with our families this summer season.
