This Just In....From Homer, Alaska

Books that are based on real-life events, such as war, are capable of provoking powerful stories from those who suffered through a similar experience. Case in point: Tim O’Brien’s Vietnam novel-in-stories, The Things They Carried. The Homer Public Library in Homer, Alaska, took this idea and ran with it for their February Big Read programming. Inspired by the stop-what-you’re-doing-and-listen moments produced by the folks at Story Corps, the library teamed up with KBBI, the local public radio station, to record memories from community members with a war story. Tune in to former Michigan State Trooper, George Remington, as he painstakingly recalls civil unrest in late '60s Detroit. [4:09]
