NOW, A JAZZ MOMENT...
Mama & Daddy
CD: Mama and Daddy
1980 Black Saint
NEA JAZZ MASTER MUHAL RICHARD ABRAMS HAS BEEN AT THE FOREFRONT OF THE CONTEMPORARY MUSIC SCENE SINCE THE 1950S. HIS MUSICAL OUTPUT IS EXTREMELY DIVERSE IN STYLE ? PERHAPS, A REFLECTION OF HIS LISTENING HABITS...
Muhal Richard Abrams: I still listen to Art Tatum, Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller, James P. Johnson, I listen to Horowitz, I listen to just all sorts of people, I listen to orchestras, symphony orchestras...
MUSIC:up for a phrase
I don't walk around with an iPod, I haven't done that yet, I know a lot of people who do have iPods, they say, you can put 2000 pieces on here and you can just listen to it all day like that you know. I just listen when I want to listen, you know, I have a lot of quiet periods, so I don't keep it going all the time.
MUSIC: up and fades
THIS JAZZ MOMENT WITH PIANIST AND COMPOSER MUHAL RICHARD ABRAMS WAS CREATED BY THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS.
