Press "Play" for Jazz

Before the winter holidays, we asked some jazz fans we know to give us their picks for favorite songs and albums. We heard from Joanne Stevens (director of Jazz Appreciation Month for the Smithsonian Institution), Irving Mayfield, Jr. (trumpeter, bandleader, and member of NEA's National Council on the Arts), Patrice Walker Powell (NEA Deputy Chairman for Grants and Awards), Raynel Frazier (trombonist and NEA music intern), and Wynton Marsalis (trumpeter, artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center, and NEA Jazz Master.) As we get ready to celebrate the 2012 NEA Jazz Masters---and 30 years of the NEA Jazz Masters program---here's their combined playlist to set the mood. (Don't forget to tune in tonight at arts.gov for the live webcast of the 2012 NEA Jazz Masters Ceremony and Concert!)
