Art Works Podcast: Looking at 2011

Washington, DC

Who better to discuss the new class of NEA Jazz Masters than noted jazz historian, archivist, and scholar Dan Morgenstern (an NEA Jazz Master himself)? As director of the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers University and Grammy Award-winning annotator of record albums (can we even still call them albums? Let’s say releases), Morgenstern is well versed with the entire breadth and history of jazz. Since we heard from Orrin Keepnews, the 2011 A.B. Spellman NEA Jazz Masters Award for Jazz Advocacy recipient, earlier in the blog, let’s hear what Morgenstern has to say about how Keepnews got started in the record business.

And listen to what Morgenstern has to say about the rest of the class as well. Don’t forget to tune in to our live webcasts of the 2011 NEA Jazz Masters panel, where you can hear the artists themselves, on January 10, 2011, at 1:00 pm EST and the NEA Jazz Masters award ceremony and concert on January 11, 2011, at 7:30pm EST. Go to arts.gov on the day of the event to access the specific webcast.
