Washington, DC It is all too appropriate that folklorist Judith McCulloh is receiving an NEA National Heritage Fellowship this year---she was on the original panel back in 1981 that recommended that the NEA begin awarding the fellowships! And even more appropriate that she is receiving the Bess Lomax Hawes Award for the preservation and awareness of cultural heritage, not only for her extensive work in the field but also having worked with and known Hawes for years. Hear the full podcast as McCulloh talks about the importance of folklore to the nation?s cultural life and Bess Lomax Hawes, among other topics. And don't forget---the 2010 NEA National Heritage Fellowships concert is tomorrow night. If you can?t make it to the Strathmore, tune in at arts.gov to watch the live webcast.
