Listening to the Masters

January 10, 2010
New York, NY

Two more sessions focusing on jazz at the Arts Presenters conference with NEA Jazz Masters playing a key role:

Underway now and continuing to 10:45: "Got Jazz? A New Age of Audience Enlightenment." Led by Lawrence Simpson of the Berklee College of Music with featured speaker Adrian Ellis of Jazz at Lincoln Center, the discussion panel includes NEA Jazz Masters Dr. Donald Byrd and Dr. Billy Taylor. Participants will discuss successful ideas and strategies that artists, presenters, agents/managers and producers are using to create entry points for audiences of all ages to experience jazz. You can follow the entire session on Twitter at #APAP2010.

Tomorrow, at 11:00, writer, jazz expert, and former NEA Deputy Chairman A.B. Spellman will lead an hour-long conversation with the 2010 NEA Jazz Masters (also on Twitter at #APAP2010). These conversations [see video of the 2008 get-together] are always entertaining and enlightening, and give the Masters a chance to share stories, insights, and surprising behind-the-scenes moments from their remarkable careers.
