Washington, DC Operatic tenor Everett McCorvey is a very busy man. In addition to performing (and acting as musical director) with the vocal group he founded, the American Spiritual Ensemble, he also teaches voice and is director of the opera program at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, a place more associated with basketball than opera. When McCorvey first came to the university, he was able to use the athletic model as a means for collaborating with the community to build the opera program, as he explains in this excerpt from this week's Art Works podcast. [4:24] Listen to the entire podcast for McCorvey's fascinating conversation, touching on subjects such as teaching voice and the difference between spirituals and gospel. Next week, the Art Works podcast will feature documentary filmmaker Ken Burns talking about his last project on the National Park system.
